01Does Smartbric require a qualified bricklayer to install?
No, you don't need to be a bricklayer or have other specialised skills to install Smartbric.

Yes. They are real bricks but approximately 1/4 the width of a traditional brick.
No. The brickslips create a continuous external barrier with overlapping joints, designed to drain water away from the cavity that lies behind the bricks. Smartbric is a rainscreen system with flexible membrane which is designed to reduce water ingress and facilitate better airflow behind the façade - thus provides superior waterproofing, condensation control, long term durability and thermal efficiency.
Whilst generally installed horizontally, Smartbric can also be installed vertically or at an inclination.
Allows for variable brick height, allows greater flexibility and can accommodate units of different sizes (variable gauge). Suitable for use in more corrosive environments.
Some movement can be expected and as with most bricks, facings experience dimensional change due to changes in moisture and temperature. To allow for this movement and to accommodate manufacturing tolerances, facings should be allowed some ability to move without compromising ease of installation and engagement with track/rail.
Smartbric thickness is 25mm compared to 110mm for a traditional brick. We can also get them done up to 55mm in thickness. In terms of width and height we adopt the common Australian brick size of 230mm (L) x 76mm (H). Note that the Rapid has an overall length of 240mm (230mm + 10mm recessed perpend joint). Custom size brick are also possible and can be installed using the variable gauge aluminium rail system. Cladding zone is 68mm, however a shallower top hat can be used to reduce the assembly thickness.
Pricing varies depending on type of facing and framing system used. Pricing is typically quoted for brick facings and track/rail excluding mortar grouting. Please contact us for a formal quote for your project.
